Sustainability
Our Commitments at a Glance
Alpine, Asian, and deeply connected to our surroundings - The Chedi Andermatt embraces nature at its core. Sustainability is woven into everything we do, from 100% renewable energy sourcing to carbon-neutral district heating using locally sourced wood chips.
We actively minimize waste through careful food tracking, recycling, and responsible purchasing while championing accessible tourism through our participation in the OK:GO Initiative. Our commitment extends to fair employment practices, regional partnerships, and continuously evaluating our CO₂ footprint as part of the Andermatt Responsible initiative.
By integrating these measures, we ensure a lasting positive impact on both the environment and the community.
The Chedi Andermatt is committed to sustainable energy solutions. We source 100% of our electricity from hydroelectric stations and wind turbines in the Gotthard region.
Additionally, our entire property is heated using carbon-neutral district heating. The wood chips used for this system come from local sources - the canton of Uri and a sawmill in Airolo - ensuring a transport distance of under 50 kilometres. We also maximize heat recovery wherever possible, such as utilizing waste heat from our cooling equipment to warm the floors in The Spa & Health Club.
The Chedi Andermatt is committed to creating a supportive and equitable workplace for its 300+ employees. We ensure fair wages, modern employment conditions aligned with market standards, and comprehensive social insurance benefits. Equal opportunities are upheld across all age groups and genders.
We promote flexible working models and actively support professional growth through ongoing education, including language courses. As a training operation, we provide apprenticeships for chefs, restaurant professionals, and commercial trainees, as well as internship opportunities for students. Additionally, we offer protected employment programs, helping individuals reintegrate into the workforce.
At The Chedi Andermatt, we are committed to minimizing waste and maximizing sustainability. In The Restaurant and the staff restaurant, all food waste is carefully collected, analyzed, and quantified to reduce overall waste generation. We separate and recycle materials wherever possible, ensuring responsible disposal and repurposing.
Additionally, we prioritize local food sourcing and opt for reusable containers to limit packaging and plastic waste. Green waste and materials from grease traps are converted into electricity, contributing to a more sustainable energy cycle.
At The Spa & Health Club, we prioritize high-quality, sustainable wellness. We use Biologique Recherche products, renowned for their exceptional efficacy and commitment to environmentally responsible manufacturing.
In our spa and guest areas, we provide refillable dispensers featuring MEI Spa’s exclusive "Mountain Field" and "Warm Amber" care products, ensuring a luxurious yet eco-conscious experience.
Since autumn 2024, guests can enjoy freshly tapped 4-Spring Water from Andermatt in all our F&B outlets. Served in glass bottles by BE WTR, this choice reflects our dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
As part of the Andermatt Responsible initiative, The Chedi Andermatt continuously evaluates its sustainability efforts and implements improvements where needed. Each year, as part of the Andermatt Swiss Alps Group, we publish a comprehensive sustainability progress report, which includes a detailed assessment of our CO₂ footprint, ensuring transparency and accountability in our commitment to sustainable development.
We are part of the sustainability program Swisstainable and classified at Level II - engaged - leading. The program unites businesses across the Swiss tourism sector, promoting continuous sustainable development and concrete contributions to a more environmentally responsible tourism industry.
Additionally, The Chedi Andermatt is part of the OK:GO Initiative, supported by the Förderverein Barrierefreie Schweiz. This initiative ensures that accessibility information for tourism offerings is structured and publicly available, making travel planning easier for people with disabilities, seniors, and families with young children. As an OK:GO partner, we commit to keeping our accessibility details up to date and prominently displayed, reinforcing our dedication to inclusive and sustainable hospitality.
